Avon-Caledonia: April 6, 2017 at age 89. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Doris (Mallory) Boyd; children, Ronald E. Boyd of Clarendon, Rhonda E. (Wayne) Peltier of CO, William F. (Sarah) Boyd of Avon; grandchildren, Jordan Boyd, Laura (Matt) Roeseler, Joshua Peltier; great grandchildren, Nikolas, Jack Roeseler. He was predeceased by infant daughter Robin E. Boyd, son Robert E. Boyd, grandson Austin J. Boyd, daughter-in-law Tracy (Anderson) Boyd. Bill was a member of the Occupation Forces in Germany and Japan. He was a member of the 25th Infantry Forces and he was one of the first to have boots on the ground. He was a member of the Avon VFW and American Legion, Military Order of Cooties, Avon Fire Depart. Pumper Company, Masonic Order, Shrine, Shrine Legion of Honor, Scottish Rite. He was District Commissioner of the Genesee Council of BSA. Bill enlisted in the Army after graduating from Avon Central in 1945, he retired from the Army in 1966 and went on to work for Rochester Telephone until his retirement in 1990. He also served as the Village of Avon Animal Control Officer for several years.
Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday 4-7 PM at the Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 350 Genesee St., Avon. Wednesday at 11 AM his Funeral Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 5605 East Avon-Lima Rd., Avon. Interment, Pleasant Valley Cemetery, York. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Austin J. Boyd Memorial Fund, Iroquois Trail Council, BSA, Avon Fire Dept., First Presbyterian Church or Honor flight.
