Kenneth Slade Mobley

Avon, NY - Age 77. Born July 29, 1942 in Williamston, NC passed away May 10, 2020 of natural causes. Predeceased by his parents, Robert Linear Mobley and Nellie Gray Mobley; his brothers, Bobby Mobley and Billie Mobley; his sisters, Maxine Ouellette and Nelda Mobley; his former wife, Jaqueline Mobley and his granddaughter, Lael Meath.

Survived by his children, Hélène Sloane Mobley and David Bradford Mobley; his brothers, Roger Mobley and Rickey Mobley; his sisters, Ruby Coltrain, Janice Clark and Shelby Alessi; 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ken was a grade school teacher in the Rush-Henrietta school district from 1968-1996. He started as a 6th grade teacher at the now closed Crittenden School and then transferred to Crane Elementary School where he taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes over the remainder of his career.

After finishing his teaching career Ken moved to Ocean Isle Beach, NC where he spent most of his retirement years. Ken was an avid golfer, at the height of his golfing adventures he played up to 5 times a week and also spent time traveling with friends to play in golf tournaments all over the south and east US coasts. He spent a lot of time going on long walks on the beach and found a passion for collecting sand dollars and sea shells which he gave to his grandkids. Ken loved and enjoyed the beach lifestyle his entire life.

Ken had a great sense of humor and loved to joke and make people around him laugh, even people he didn’t know. He had true southern hospitality in his blood and often walked up to strangers and started talking like he had known them for years.
Once he did get to know people he almost always would grant them some form of a nickname that he would then always use.

Ken loved his family and the people close to him deeply and affectionately, he will truly be missed by many.

Internment will be in Ken’s hometown of Williamston, NC after a celebration of his life, sometime this summer. There will also be calling hours in NY at a future date.
