Obituary

FOWLERVILLE- Karen Phyllis Dougherty (KP/Nana) 78, passed away peacefully at her home in the presence of her loving family on December 22, 2020.

Karen was born on November 16, 1942 in Batavia, NY to Harold and Phyllis (Burgett) Dougherty. As a graduate of St. Agnes School in Avon and St. Agnes High School in Rochester, it was there that Karen forged lasting friendships and her deep, unfailing faith. On July 1, 1961, Karen married the love of her life Jim Arrigenna. Together they raised their five children instilling the strong foundation of family. Predeceased by her loving husband Jim of 54 years. Karen is admired by her devoted children, Jackie (Jack) Magiera, Patti (Dan) Barefoot, Chrissy (Larry) Harris, Julie (Dave Downey), and Jim Arrigenna. Karen beamed with pride for her five grandchildren: Jaymeson (Samantha) Barefoot, Kellen Magiera, Connor (Cassie Metzinger) Magiera, Abby (Steve Geer) Barefoot and Quinn Magiera.

Karen shared loving relationships with Sue Stella Winkfield and Rachael Unger Brown and family. The middle child of eleven, Karen kept her siblings close to her heart Marcia Quinlan, Kay (Ron) McAfee, Jerry (Kim) Dougherty, Peter (Barb) Dougherty, Cheryl (Bill) Bryar, Kevin Dougherty, Pam (Peter) Arrigenna. She fondly remembered those who went before her. Brothers John, Jim, and sister, Mary Jane. She shared a special, loving bond with “sister” Rose Biondolillo and aunt, Leah Vitale. She was grateful to family for their generosity, visits and support which included many nieces and nephews who shared so much love and kindness. She lit up with pictures, videos, and notes from great nieces and nephews. Staying connected to family was important to her. Sending cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrations would have lottery tickets included. Karen connected with all generations which brought her joy. Karen’s kitchen table was the hub filled with prayer, family, friends and great food.
Her belief in life’s journey came with great appreciation to health care providers, too. This includes Dr. Sasha Nelson, Wendy Chapman, and Kerry Prentice.

Her Mass of Christian Burial at St. Agnes Church, 96 Prospect St. Avon will be held on Monday, December 28 at 10:00 a.m. The Mass will streamed
( http://bit.ly/KA122820 ) followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Geneseo. Social distancing, including mask wearing is mandatory.

Donations may be made in her memory to Livingston County Hospice- 2 County Campus, Mt. Morris, NY 14510 and St. Agnes School Foundation (the little gem on the circle)- 60 Park Place, Avon, NY 14414

To All of Karen's family members...especially her five wonderful children...
May I extend my heartfelt sympathy to you @ this time of great loss.
I was fortunate enough to teach all 5 of Karen's children. Therefore, I know 1st hand what a devoted mother she was to each of them.
She was rewarded for her efforts of being such a grand mother by raising 5 exceptional children. She saw the fruit of her labor of love. Then she got to see that carried on by the grand children she saw grow up. How fortunate she was to witness the continuation of her work.
She was a sweet, beautiful woman in all ways. A religious woman who extolled her beliefs. Everyone who knew her & was fortunate enough to be in her company knew that of her. I was so lucky.
We have lost a dear person but we are blessed to have known her. She always had a kind word to utter or a smile to give you & always asked how you were doing.
To her children...I say cherish the memories & dwell upon the good times. All those beautiful, heartwarming memories will definitely sustain you & your children.
Sorry because of Covid we are not able to come together.
Love & hugs to all 5 of YOU & your families,
Mrs. Patty Fennell

Please accept our deepest condolences for the loss of Karen. When Karen babysat the Unger girls, our boys always had a great time sharing Karen’s playful and pleasant personality. She and Jim were two of the most wonderful people we had the pleasure to know. Our thoughts and prayers are with your entire family during this time.
