Michael L. Gillen, Jr.
Avon – Michael passed away on January 14, 2023at age 56 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris, NY. He was born August 10, 1966 to the late Michael and Sue Gillen.
Michael was born with a rare genetic disorder FOP and at the time he was diagnosed was told he would struggle to live to his teens. As with many other challenges set before him, Michael’s never quit attitude and his determination to keep pushing himself allowed him to far outlive the prognosis he was given. Michael would be the only member of his immediate family to earn a college degree, paralyzed at 18 he worked extremely hard to be able to walk again. His example and fortitude is and will continue to be a source of inspiration for his friends and family.
Michael is survived by his sisters Norma (Mike) Rink, Michelle (Dave) Vankouwenberg, Lynda Gillen and his five nephews, one niece, two great nephews; several aunts and uncles.
His graveside service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10 AM at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Livonia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Livingston County Hospice Program 2 Murray Hill Drive Mt. Morris, NY 14510 or the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation 11 Murray Hill Drive Mt. Morris, NY 14510 in his memory.
